Applying for a Primary School Place - *DEADLINE*

Parents and carers who have children who are due to start in Reception or to move to a Junior School in September 2023 have only till 5pm on Sunday 15 January to apply for their school place. With less than 2 weeks to go, Warwickshire County Council are urging parents and carers to submit their application by the deadline.

This deadline applies to children born between 1 September 2018 and 31 August 2019, who must submit their application for a place in a Reception class in September 2023. The 15 January deadline also applies to children who are currently in Year 2 at an infant school, who want to move to a junior school. This transfer does not happen automatically, even between schools with the same name.

Applications should be made online at: www.warwickshire.gov.uk/primaryplace . All parents and carers who apply by the deadline will receive their child’s school offer on National Offer Day, 17 April 2023.

Applications that don’t meet the 15 January deadline will only be considered once those submitted on time have been made offers, by which time many schools will be full, and the child is much less likely to be offered a place at their preferred school.

Cllr Kam Kaur, portfolio holder for Education at Warwickshire County Council, explains: “Starting school for the first time and moving to a junior school can be a big transition, but it doesn’t need to be scary for parents or carers. The best thing you can do is to get your application in by the deadline of 15 January. To help you do this, we’ve got lots of advice and support on our website, including a video to guide you through the process and a handy directory of schools where you can find all those that are local to you.”

We continue to ask residents to be vigilant and report any dog fouling issues directly to North Warwickshire Borough Council via their website www.northwarks.gov.uk.

Dog Fouling

Grendon Parish Council asks that those dog owners who are not clearing up after their dog to please do so. There are dog waste and litter bins located conveniently around the village to make this job easier or take the waste home with you for disposal. The bins are emptied by the North Warwickshire Borough Council (NWBC) street cleaning teams. Everyone in the village is paying for this service, so please use it and help keep your village a pleasure to walk in.

We benefit from having many footpaths and open designated routes through fields. These routes are available to all and as such, are just as much a part of the villages as the pavements. No one wants to walk through dog waste, so please pick it up wherever you may be.

Dog faeces are not only unpleasant and unsightly but also a carry a harmful infection, which can cause serious illness and/or disability if ingested.

ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR, CRIME AND POLICING ACT 2014

PUBLIC SPACE PROTECTION ORDER (CONTROL OF DOGS) 2015

Not clearing up your dog’s waste is a Criminal Offence under the legislation listed above, which can be prosecuted in the Magistrates Court with fines of up to £1000. Further action may also be taken against repeat offenders in the form of Civil Injunctions which, if breached, can result in custodial sentences of up to two years.

If you want to report dog fouling, and you know the offender or have a description and when the fouling is happening, then North Warwickshire Borough Council can investigate this. Please visit the website www.northwarks.gov.uk and follow the links to report a dog fouling issue.

Dog waste should be picked up and disposed of responsibly in a dog waste bin. It can also be placed in any litter bin, as well as a domestic general refuse bin if bagged. Dog fouling is a social problem caused by a few irresponsible dog owners, and it is only with the combined efforts of the community, the Parish Council and NWBC that we can address this unacceptable behaviour.

The challenges of this year will not prevent Grendon from remembering the bravery of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

We lay this wreath in honoured memory of those who, over many years and in many places, gave their lives in defence of their country and all that they held dear.

They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old;

Recreation Ground

The Parish Council have received enquiries as to when the recreation ground will reopen.

A vast amount of money was obtained with difficulty by Cllr. Wright for the following purpose.

To lay new drains to make it suitable and safe to accommodate a senior football pitch and a number of smaller ones for the large number of junior teams which have nowhere to play.

In the past pitches have been fouled by dog walkers who do not clean up behind them. The Parish Council has installed a bin and there are plenty of other walks and footpaths nearby.

Should this be repeated the Parish Council will consult with NWBC regarding access.

It will reopened when the contractors have decided the ground has settled properly and the grass roots sufficiently strong enough to take the wear and tear.

We will aim to keep you fully updated on any developments.

Update - Grendon Flood Action Group

On Tuesday, 16th April the Grendon Flood Action Group, chaired by myself, held our first multi-agency meeting at Grendon Community Centre.

Representatives from NWBC (Planning), WCC (Lead Flood Authority), WCC Highways, Environment Agency, Severn Trent Water and the National Flood Forum Charity met together to discuss flooding issues in and around Grendon and address the action points which the Grendon Flood Action Group had discussed and scripted for the meeting.

We discussed a variety of issues from preventative measures to planning applications and the Environment Agency kindly provided information on who is responsible for preventative maintenance of the Penmire Brook and the River Anker. The Environment Agency have agreed to attend a walk around Grendon with members of the Grendon Flood Action Group so we can bring the different issues to their attention.

Kevin Blount from WCC, the Lead Flood Authority, has proposed a separate meeting with the flood action group on the 7th May 2019 as he would like to discuss the proposals being put in place by WCC to prevent flooding by improving & altering the infrastructure in Grendon and the wider area.

There will be a further multi-agency meeting on Tuesday, 17th September to follow up on all of the issues raised.

Anyone who is interested in joining or contributing to the Grendon Flood Action Group please feel free to get in touch with,

In his place we welcome Chris Rich-Bate. As well as serving all residents, Chris has been deeply involved in the flood problems at Penmire Rise, so has got to know a lot of local residents.

MP's Meet to discuss Government Funding to Improve & Upgrade the A5

The following article was taken from a post published by local MP Craig Tracey:

'Met with Roads Minister, Jesse Norman MP, this morning to discuss the need for Government funding to improve and upgrade the A5 in North Warwickshire.

This followed on from a meeting - had with Midland Connect last week, who are also supportive of the need for change.

Not good enough that eastbound traffic during peak times between Dordon & Atherstone has an average speed of just 20mph in mornings & 30 mph in the evenings on such a critical stretch of road.

Also raised several issues in Grendon raised by the local Parish Council as Highways England were present at the meeting as well as re-iterating concerns about Mancetter Island, which needs urgent attention.'

Flood Forum Meeting

There was a meeting held on Thursday 24th January 2019 at the Community Centre, Boot Hill, to enable residents to outline their concerns regarding flooding throughout Grendon and the surrounding areas.

It was agreed that a 'Grendon Flood Action Group' would be formed, this group will meet regularly and be supported by the Flood Forum and Warwickshire County Council.

The main aim of the group is to agree a strategy of which areas need addressing by the relevant authorities, raising a list of questions / issues to be addressed. The representatives from both the Flood Forum and Warwickshire County Council will then send the questions to all of the relevant authorities involved, eg. WCC, NWBC, Environment Agency, Highways England, and then ask them to attend a meeting with the group to address these concerns.

The group will then follow this up with the relevant authorities through continued meetings to ensure issues are addressed and rectified.

This has been a great success in other areas where flood action groups have been set up.
